Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
