Microsoft's Gaming Subscription Members Can Still Get New Game Launches for Under $30 Per Month
After the company's latest declaration of an extensive overhaul of its gaming subscription tiers, the tech giant has explained what the updates signify for gamers who still have an Xbox Game Pass for Console active. As stated by Xbox, subscribers who currently maintains a legacy Console subscription with recurring payments turned on will not be affected by the new pricing adjustments.
Latest Updates to Xbox Game Pass Tiers
Just a few days ago, Xbox revealed that its top-tier plan will be priced at $29.99 per month, a decision that sparked debate among members. This change accompanies rebranded options—Essential and Premium—which alter the available features and exclude new titles at launch. The move came after a prior change in last year, which phased out the Console plan in exchange for Core and Standard levels. At that time, Xbox permitted current Console subscribers to keep their membership at the same monthly rate of $10.99 with full benefits, such as access to games on launch day.
“Players who are currently enrolled in Xbox Game Pass for Console and have recurring billing enabled can continue their subscription,” a representative stated. “If players turn off recurring payments, or their subscription lapses, they will have to choose between the Essential, Premium, Ultimate, or PC Game Pass plans when rejoining.”
Perks and Costs Stay the Same
The perks and monthly fee of the legacy subscription will not be changing, as confirmed by Xbox: “Day one games are accessible with Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions, as well as for subscribers who continue to hold an active Console subscription. Players who are currently enrolled in Xbox Game Pass for Console and have automatic payment renewal turned on can continue their membership at $10.99 per month.”
Upon inquiry, a company representative declined to specify for what duration grandfathered Console plans will stay available for existing members.
How to Check If You Have a Console Plan
- Visit the Game Pass website and sign in with your Xbox account.
- Select your username in the top right corner of the page once logged in.
- Choose “My Microsoft Account.”
- If you see “Xbox Game Pass for Console” listed as an active subscription, you can still get day-one games for $11 a month as long as recurring payments are enabled.
Make sure to check if you still have this golden ticket before ending your membership, as you won’t be able to rejoin the plan once you cancel.
