Former BBC Consultants Undergo MPs' Grilling In the Wake of Assertions of Bias in Disclosed Document
We begin with queries from Conservative MP the committee chair, who leads the committee.
She initiates by giving background to the leaked memo written by Michael Prescott and printed in the Telegraph.
"It is not my wish for the BBC slanting this way or that way, My only wish is for it balanced, impartial and equitable," he says.
When asked if he believes the British Broadcasting Corporation is institutionally biased, Prescott replies: "No I don't. To be clear, numerous aspects the BBC produces is exceptional - including factual and non-factual programming."
However, he continues: "There exists substantial tasks that needs to be done at the BBC."
A further ex-adviser BBC adviser examined by the committee, Caroline Daniel, says she regards the British Broadcasting Corporation extremely earnestly and that it has a "continuous process and lively discussion" across dynamic and complex issues.
"Whether the BBC was willing to conduct a genuine dialogue and exchange and act accordingly?" she reflects. "In my view, yes they were."
