The British government is set to progress with employing the full worth of immobilized Russian assets to bolster Ukraine's war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a collective announcement, the officials of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to participate in talks.

They further noted that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have frozen over £25bn of Russia's funds since Moscow initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, up to this point, resources sent to Ukraine using Russia's holdings had exclusively been taken from profits and interest generated on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the complete amount of the seized Russian sovereign funds to conclude the conflict.

He stated that additional measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Russia.

This declaration comes after European Union officials met in the Danish capital recently to consider using immobilized Russian assets for a €140 billion credit to Ukraine.

Recently, US President Donald Trump called on G7 allies to take or otherwise use frozen Russian funds, as reported by media sources.

The worth of seized Russia's funds in the Europe is assessed to be approximately €211bn.

Leader Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to take part in the PURL program

Russia executed extensive aerial attacks throughout Ukraine on Friday, causing electricity outages in large parts of the capital city, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.

Several persons were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the attack, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a message on an online platform subsequent to the strike, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What is required is not mere statements but firm measures - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in delivering air defence systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure weakens Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

Also on Friday, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL program, under which Nato countries acquire military equipment from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the United Kingdom's firm backing for Ukraine, he said it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the system, as well as enforce further sanctions on Russia.
